DISCOVER STEM WEEK 2013
DISCOVER STEM WEEK 2013
The Museum is excited to bring you “Discover STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Week,” a new, week-long extension of what was formerly “Zoom into Science & Engineering.” Discover STEM Week welcomes APS teachers and students, as well as families, to participate in a celebration of engineering where students will interact with scientists and engineers.
Discover STEM Week is a great way to add engineering exploration to daily school programming. With STEM education becoming a very important part of student achievement, this is an exciting opportunity for students to explore engineering problem solving as well as opportunities for future careers.
Each day, students will be given the opportunity to explore a different field of engineering:
Monday, february 11 - Aeronautical Engineering
Tuesday, february 12 - Biomedical Engineering
Wednesday, february 13 - Electrical Engineering
Thursday, february 14 - Mechanical Engineering and Design
Friday, february 15 - Environmental Engineering
Saturday, february 16 - Discover Stem Day Family Event!
Engineers from local businesses such as Sandia National Laboratories, Intel, Kirtland Air Force Base, and others, will work with visiting students to expand their understanding of the world of engineering with engaging workshops and hands-on learning stations.
Discover STEM Week will take place February 11 through February 16, 2013, nearly coinciding with National Engineering Month in March. On Discover STEM Day, Saturday, February 16, families are invited along with Scouts to engage in fun engineering activities. Visitors will be able to discover sand that is scared of water, fly remote-control airplanes in Heritage Park, experience delicious ice cream made with liquid nitrogen, and much more! Participation is free with Museum admission!
For more information, or to discuss reduced busing fees and admissions, please call 505-245-2137, extension 103.
