Empower Your Students Future: Counselor In Training Program

Do you know a teen looking to make a difference while building a standout resume? The National Museum of Nuclear Science & History’s CIT Program is a dynamic, 6-week leadership journey designed for teens aged 13 to 17.

This isn't just a summer camp—it’s a professional stepping stone. Through hands-on experience, our CITs develop the communication, collaboration, and leadership skills necessary to become the next generation of camp staff and community leaders.

      The CIT Experience includes

      • Week 1: Foundations Training: Dive into counseling techniques, best practices, and environmental stewardship.
      • Weeks 2–6: Leadership Internship: Apply your skills in a real-world day camp setting, working alongside museum professionals.

      Who Should Apply?
We are looking for motivated teens who meet the following criteria:

      • Age: 13–17 years old at the start of the session. Entering grades 8-12 in the fall of 2026
      • Passion: A genuine interest in recreational youth development.
      • Vibe: High energy, enthusiasm, and a consistently positive attitude.

      Cost: $160 per week

The Selection Process: Acceptance is competitive and based on:

      • A completed CIT Application. (Deadline May 1, 2026)
      • An interview with an Education Department staff member

      CIT Hours at a Glance

We want to make the CIT experience as seamless as possible for your family.

      • CITs are scheduled from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Since they play a vital role in our morning preparations, we ask that all CITs check in by 8:00 AM.
      • While the standard camp day runs from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM, we know that extra time is sometimes needed. We are happy to offer complimentary extended care for our CITs until 5:30 to help accommodate your schedule.
