Spring Break Camp March 20-24

Spring Break, March 20 – 24

The National Museum of Nuclear Science & History is pleased to offer single-day themed camps for the Fall Break, Election Day, Veterans Day, Winter Break, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Presidents Day, and Spring Break school holidays. Spring Break Day camp is geared to campers in grades K-6, and for a maximum of 20 campers.

Our education teams have divided camp topics into single-day camps that are multi-age collaborative camper experiences from 8:30 am- 3:30 pm, with FREE before-and-aftercare starting at 7:30 am and ending at 5:30 pm. Each in-person camp will maintain CDC and state safety protocols (where applicable). Enrollment is limited to day camps for grades Kindergarten through 6th grade.

Single-day camps are $75.00 per session. Members receive a $5.00 discount on camp enrollment costs. Children should bring two snacks, a lunch, and a refillable water bottle each day of Camp.

Monday, March 20t

Light and Sound (K–3)

Wave hello to light and sound! In this interactive camp, we will dive into the ways that light and sound are all around us. Join us for a sensory adventure as we explore the science of sound and vibrations, analyze light waves, and discover your shadow in this camp that is sure to be pitch-perfect.

Good Vibrations (4–6)

Ka-BLAM! How is sound made and what do waves have to do with it? We’ll experiment with sound as we make our own music. Discover what you already know about: tones, pitch, rhythm, intensity, and timbre. Find out where music began and make that music here. How do we get different sounds out of musical instruments?

Tuesday, March 21

Space Spectacular (K–3)

Take your best shot and land amongst the stars. Join us as we explore the night sky, construct a comet, design a constellation viewer, and fit the solar system in a jar! Come analyze your own stellar nebula and create impact craters like those on the Moon in a camp that’s out of this world!

Space Odyssey (4–6)

Investigate the skies as you discover the challenges facing scientists who study space. We'll do experiments with atmospheric pressure, make models of the solar system, and more. Find out how things fly, learn about plants and stars, and discover what it takes to be an astronaut in this exciting day camp.

Wednesday, March 22

Going Green (K–3)

It’s your planet, so keep it green! In this camp, we will show you how. Campers will explore ways to improve our environment through recycling and conservation. We will experiment with products that conserve water, and re-use items to create art and make paper.

Appliance Science (4–6)

Science is in the house! Have you ever thought about how electricity is used in small appliances? Discover how a toaster and a blender work. Learn the mechanics of a can opener, make a clothesline pulley and a lamp. Learn how to be safe in the kitchen. Campers will deconstruct appliances found in the house to learn how they work.

Thursday, March 23

Science of Magic (K–3)

Dazzle your family and friends! Can you really believe what you see? What is an optical illusion? Discover the science that magicians use to make magic. We’ll have tons of fun learning some of the tricks of the trade!

Special FX (4–6)

How did they do that? We’ll go behind the scenes to discover and create theater effects! Fog, fire, and fake blood-we’ll be creating special effects through science. Find out some of the tools of the trade then take home some secret effects.

Friday, March 24

Spark Lab (K–3)

Spark your curiosity in this fun-filled camp all about magnetism and electricity. Build a circuit, make your own compass, construct an electromagnet, and learn the magic behind motors. This camp is “shockingly” fun

Spark Your Curiosity (4–6)

Does electricity pique your interest? Come complete a human circuit, illuminate an LED with conductive dough, and have a hair-raising experience with our Van de Graaf generator. It’ll be electrifying!


HOURS AND LOCATION

Spring Break Day camp runs from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM. Please drop off your camper no earlier than 7:30 AM and pick up on or before 5:30 PM. Late fees apply for campers who have not been picked up by that time.

COST
