A Silent Guardian of National Security
On March 25, the Bell 412 HP (N411DE) will be permanently docked in Heritage Park, serving as a powerful testament to the intersection of aviation engineering and nuclear non-proliferation. For over 30 years, this specific aircraft was a primary asset for the Nuclear Emergency Support Team (NEST), a specialized unit of the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).
While its silhouette is a modern evolution of the legendary Vietnam-era "Huey," its mission was uniquely domestic. As a high-tech aerial sensor platform, this helicopter secured National Special Security Events, including Super Bowls and Presidential Inaugurations, by scanning for radiological threats to ensure the safety of millions.
