Another example of products using "radium" as a signifier of purity, quality, or freshness, this butter box would not have contained any radioactive materials, but, rather, plain butter. The association with radioactivite materials could also have come from the namesake of the town, Nucla, in Colorado where this product originated. Founded by socialists, the town was originally named after the word "nucleus" but the name would later be more closely associated with the uranium mining industry in the area. According to census information for 1930, Nucla had a population of 221.
