Discover the Museum Through a Child’s Eyes

The For Kids, By Kids Audio Tour offers a fresh way to explore the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History—through the voices of young learners. Created and narrated by local elementary students, this tour helps make big scientific ideas and historic events more approachable for families and visitors of all ages.

What Is For Kids, By Kids?

For Kids, By Kids is a student‑created audio tour featuring 15 short recordings, each focused on a museum object chosen by students.

  • Narrated by local elementary students
  • 1–2 minutes per stop
  • Designed for families and young visitors
  • Available via a QR code in Periodic Hall, which takes you to a numbered playlist.

Each recording shares key facts and insights in clear, kid‑friendly language—offering a unique perspective on complex history.

How the Project Came to Life

The project began while students from Lavaland Elementary School in Albuquerque were in second grade. Guided by their teacher, Abby Flores, students:

  1. Selected museum objects that sparked their curiosity
  2. Conducted their own age‑appropriate research
  3. Wrote and recorded audio explanations in their own words

The project concluded the following year, with the students—now third‑graders—finalizing their recordings and sharing them with the public.
