Our museum is excited to offer a FREE education kit focused on radiation and nuclear energy, specifically intended for middle and high school students attending schools that serve primarily Indigenous students and communities.

Who Can Request a Kit?

This valuable education kit is available at no cost to teachers of middle and high school students who are:

  • Enrolled in Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) schools.
  • Attending schools located on federally recognized American Indian or Alaska Native reservations.
  • Attending schools situated on tribal land.
  • Or have a majority percentage of American Indian or Alaska Native students

What is Included in Your Kit?

  • A flash drive with digital lesson plans
  • A Geiger Counter (batteries not included) and common household items to test (Radiation 101)
  • Cloud Chamber (Visualizing Background Radiation)
  • Common or consumable supplies for activities that explore:
    >The origins of nuclear science (Rutherford Board)
    >Atomic structure and isotopes (Isotope Discovery)
    >Radioactive Decay (Half-Life)
    >Nuclear Chain Reactions (Ping Pong Fission)
    >Energy Production (Fission vs. Fusion)

The kit contains all of the materials needed to demonstrate each activity. We have included the most specialized and difficult-to-source materials in the kit. For activities that use common or consumable supplies, quantities may not be sufficient for an entire class. Any additional items needed to create full class sets are generally inexpensive and readily available through common educational or retail suppliers.
